What is homeschooling?
Homeschooling is defined by the law as teaching at the learners home. A child who is schooled/taught at a home other than his own, is not being homeschooled, and thus, in South Africa, is not protected by the law governing homeschooling. Furthermore, homeschooling is done within the family circle, therefore mother, father, grandma, grandpa or an older brother or sister may participate and will provide the biggest percentage of the teaching. This does not mean that you are not alowed to make use of profesionals to help you school yout child, it only means that you are not alowed to let someone else do more than 40% of your child's education if that person/s is not registered as a private or public school. Homeschooling in South Africa, therefore rules out the practice of a cottage school. Vir meer inligting oor die wet in SA oor Tuisskool kontak Pestalozi Trust by 012 330 1337 www.pestalozzi.org.
