CHE Entrepreneurial Day 2008

In lieu of the Summer Fair, an Entrepreneurs Day was held at the Nelson’s Creek Estate near Paarl on 1 May. It was held in conjunction with the regular Nelson’s Creek Farm Market and the SAD Half Marathon. The athletes were requested to support the market after their run as part of a competition.

The rules of the market determined that all stalls had to be operational from 08:00 till 13:00 and home schoolers accounted for the majority of the stalls! Congratulations to the home schoolers for their effort! Unfortunately, a few stalls could not be accommodated due to a last minute ruling by the market supervisor.

Despite the fact that the support from the marathoners was disappointing, those who participated, enjoyed themselves and had good fellowship. Some stalls did fairly well and stalls eventually closed after 14:00.

The boeresport activities were enjoyed by everyone - even the on-lookers! It was held on an open field in the parking lot just below the area where the stalls were situated and all the children joined in. Some sixteen to twenty children of ages 6 to 14 participated in a fierce tug-of-war, egg-throwing competitions and potato runs.

In all it was a beautiful and enjoyable day with some good sports. Due to the success of the sports, as well as promptings by some members, a sports day is contemplated for next year instead of the summer fair and to allow for entrepreneurial opportunities to be available at all the CHE functions.
